Madurai Muthuswamy Iyer Family

Muthuswamy Iyer was the man who is said to have been a tahsildar and was owner of vast stretches of land in Devadanappatti near Periyakulam and a few other villages that were inherited.

• Muthuswamy Iyer's son was M Venkatama Iyer. Muthuswamy Iyer's daughter, was Meenakshi and was married to Naganatha Sasthri of Tanjore (originally from Pudukkottai and son of Venku Iyer).
• Lokanayaki aka Chellammal was one of the five daughters of this alliance and she married Ramiah Iyer of Cadavasal ( s/o. C R Kujithapatham Iyer of Nagappattinam)
• Muthuswamy Iyer's son Venkatrama Iyer was a leading luminary in Madurai and was an advocate.
• Venkatrama Iyer had 3 daughters Pichammal, Nagalakshmi, Meenu, and 3 sons Muthuramalinga Iyer, Kameswara Iyer, Subramania Iyer.
• Pichammal was married to TN Vaidyanatha Iyer, (Tanajavur Naganatha Sasthry’s son and brother of Lokanayaki's (cadavasal patti). He married his maternal uncle's daughter Pichammal aka peria manni.
• DR T.V. Venkateshan of Madurai and Jaya Kunjithapatham were son and daughter respectively of TN Vaidhyanatha Iyer and Pichammal. Jaya married CRK (Grandson of senior CRK).
• Muthuramalinga Iyer was wedded to Justice Seshagiri Iyer's daugher and moved to Chennai. She was known as Ammanji Manni. Uncle's son is known by the generic Ammanji and his wife became Ammanji Manni!!!.They had three sons Rajamani, Sundaram, Ramachandran and three daughters, the eldest (name not known) of whom was G V Ramakrishna's mother. GVR is familiarly known as Chottu and was SEBI chairman etc. His brother G V Viswanath was IAS and was in high positions in Karnataka govt. The other two daughters were Lalitha Manni and Susheela.
• Lalitha Manni married Dr. Venkatesan. Reverse it and it follows Venkatesan married his maternal uncle's daughter. This is the second such hook-in!.It is said, Lalitha manni fully supplanted the qualities of Peria manni (her MIL).Both Peria manni (TVV’s mother) and Lalitha manni were highly respected in the family for their qualities.
• Kameshwara Iyer married Meenambal (D/O Rajamani Iyer of Veeranallur near Madurai).
• Subramania Iyer married Savithri. (Daughter of C.Ramaiyer and Lokanayaki).Savithri married her mother's ammanji, one degree removed from the earlier unions of maternal uncle's daughters!
• CRK married Jaya, his uncle TNV's daughter. The third such encirclements!!

Dear Ram Sharan,

Thanks for your encouraging and affectionate words. Eventhough, I have not met you in person, i'm quite close with many of the family members on your in-law's side. The relationship is not that distant as it appears to be.

I hope you had the opportunity to go thru the cadavasal chronicles documented in the blog as well.

I would be happy to stay in touch with you. Kindly leave your email ID.

Cheers,

Shyam (Sundaresan)
