This blog titled "Sattanathapuram Roots" is an attempt to research and capture some history of our ancestors and interesting facets of their cherished lives in an bygone era. The past of our ancestors as told by the current generation elders is captured 'As is'. Some amount of speculation from our elders cant be ruled out. I have tried to be accurate in verifying the veracity of the contnets from multiple sources and searches on the internet wherever possible.
I have choosen the title 'Roots' drawing inspiration from Alex Haley's ROOTS. In some places, I’ve tried to capture the anecdotes verbatim, as has been attributed to our forefathers and ancestors. We have to respect it “as is” and there is no way we are going to change it.
Most of the information related to Cadavasal family history is based on the personal interactions and mail exchanges with shri Cadavasal Natarajan a.k.a CRN [Papa Mama]
Since, it was CRN (papa mama to my family) who aroused my interest on this subject, it is apt to write CRN’s famous quote.
The petals should remember the flower
The flower should remember the stalk
The stalk should remember the branch
The branch should remember the tree
The tree should remember the “ROOTS”
Cadavasal R. Natarajan
“Always remember them and their connections. This is what will give you the pride in your family, your heritage, your culture and your faith.”
In one of the mail exchanges, he wrote to me as follows,“you have the interest and find time to keep track of the roads traveled and to be explored, by saving and annotating the information I am spawning out from my memory in your computers. Put them to some use so that the future generations do not find themselves as strangers from their own genes!”
Shri T.V.Balan retired ACC official [and great grandson of Thanjavur Naganatha Sastry] is internationally recognized for his Leadership in Cement Industry, and Computerisation and “ITC” – Information & Communication Technology, was acclaimed by Mr. Narayana Murthy (Mentor Infosys) as a Visionary in the 70’s for taking IT to Industry has these words to say after going through the blog
"You have in me an Old Man admirer of your Patience, Tolerance and above all spending Time & Money on a mundane subject of interest to a handful but for the progeny of tomorrow, remembering the following Golden Words -
“TIME lapses, TRADITIONS Change, GENERATIONS pass,
But WISDOM endures;
The future is built with the Wisdom of the Past”
- T.V.BALAN
