Sattanathapuram - School Uniform Distribution function – 2013

At the outset, I start with pranams to Jagadguru His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamigal, the ruling and 36th Pontiff of Sri Sringeri Saradha Peetham for everyone’s welfare and continued prosperity.

Be the change you wish to see in the world – Mahatma Gandhi

For the 3rd  year in a row, under the aegis of Smt Alamelu Trust and Sri Kailasanathar trust, we initiated a scheme for free distribution of school uniforms to 300 school children (Class 1 to Class 8) in 2 schools.

Event Information

School Children from two government schools (Panchayath union school in Satttanathapuram and Harijan Welfare school in Surakadu [Both located in Sirkazhi Taluk of Nagaipattiattinam district in Tamilnadu] were identified.

The Uniform distribution function was held on 15th August 2013.

Couple of days back, I was watching a comedy film ‘Evan Almighty’ along with my family. I got glued to the film, and it stuck to me for a very strong powerful message which left a lasting impression on me. Morgan Freeman delivers a punch line in the movie “the correct way to change the world is by doing one Act of Random Kindness (A.R.K.) at a time”

SMILES - One Act of Random Kindness at a time

I dedicate the above message to all our donors and sponsors for their One act of Random kindness at a time. With their support we were able to bring big smiles to 300 school children and their families.

I would like to appreciate,  place on record and make a mention about the below 2 acts of kindness, which touched each one of us.

  1. On hearing about the Merit awards initiation for year 2013, which we announced in year 2012 , Mr.Somasekar Sundaresan , a leading corporate lawyer from Mumbai pledged his support to bear the entire expenses a year back, and true to his word, took on himself the entire expenses and needed no further reminder.
  2. Kiran, a 9th Grade student studying in SSVM school- Coimbatore sent money for one uniform to our trust as his contribution from his piggy bank on hearing about the event from his parents
The events of the day followed the below pattern.
  1. Welcome speech by the school head master followed by introductory speech of the guest of honours.
  2. Speech competition
  3. Merit award distribution
  4. School uniform distribution
  5. Song and Dance events by school children on various themes highlighting the sacrifices of our national leaders
  6. Vote of thanks and singing of National Anthem

The deserving pupils for Merit awards, were requested to come on-stage along with their parents to collect the monetary award. The awards were presented in neat file folders with the names of the Donor and Alamelu Trust imprinted on the file folders. The happiness and pride on the faces of parents were well evident on stage.

The above physically challenged student also received the merit award. His mother used to carry him to school till 5th Standard. We invited the mother on to stage and a standing ovation was given to her for the selfless service done by her to impart education to her physically challenged son. The mother was overwhelmed with emotion and tears of joy.

We sincerely hope and pray such encouragements will motivate the young wards to become successful youngsters on their chosen field and serve our country well in the coming years.

This was followed by members of both the trusts distributing free school uniforms to children from 2 schools. Uniforms were distributed to about 300 school children.

Various speakers, placed on record, their appreciation for the activities of the Trusts, its sponsors, and Merit award sponsor Mr Somasekar Sundaresan. The lead taken by Shri S.S.Srinivasan in organizing such welfare measures for the school in spite of his advanced age was well recognized and appreciated.

Vote of thanks was proposed by the school headmaster. He prayed for the welfare of the sponsors, their children and their families and pleaded that such noble activities continue for many more years to come.

My sincere thanks to all the trust members, donors and sponsors who contributed generously for the school uniforms and Merit awards. This would not have been possible without your altruistic financial support. We seek your continued support in this journey and pray that this service is expanded to many other noble initiatives.

Special and profound thanks combined with gratitude to Shri S.S.Srinivasan for co-coordinating and making all arrangements for making the event a grand success
