This is MY COUNTRY and I have a right to live in peace here……….

26-Nov-2008. : Terrorist attack on Mumbai – Taj, Oberoi and Nariman House

Our Motherland has been attacked by cowardly terrorists, causing inexplicable damage, grief and sorrow to numerous families and aimed at denting the economic growth in our Motherland.

I pray for the brave sons and daughters of our motherland Bharat and numerous foreigners who lost their lives. God be with their families to cope up with the tragic loss of their loved ones.

The courage and determination showed by our armed forces, NSG, Marine commandos, Police and other agencies in defeating this sinister and evil design ( as we hear from news channels, that their plans were of megalomaniac proportions) of the terrorists deserves commendable praise and salutations.

For the first time, we did not negotiate with the terrorists in a hostage situation. This shows our WILL.

More than 200 precious lives have been plucked by this cruel act. The spineless perpetrators of this dastardly crime and their network are at large. In the coming days there will be lot of political rhetoric and blame games by our politicians. Thanks to our political system, we will never see light, nor will be a fitting response to such dastardly acts of cowardice.

A month later, the entire episode will be forgotten, and a year later we will all light candles in remembrance of the dead. Somewhere, across our shores there will be blue prints under preparation for the next target. As a nation we need an answer on what will be done to stop this and protect us from such violence ?

We need an answer from the Government, Our President, Our members of Parliament on what will be done to assure the safety of citizens of this peace loving country, which is one of the fundamental rights as per constitution

I salute the brave officers of this country who died in protecting Her honor. Hemant Karkare, Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Vijay Salaskar , Ashok Kamte, Gajendra Singh……and many others. We should not subject ourselves to a mode of fear and helplessness, for that would be a pyrrhic victory for the shameless perpetrators of this reprehensible act. We should rather unitedly stand-up and demand action on how such things are going to be prevented.

This is MY COUNTRY and I have a right to live in peace here. I’ll not live a life of fear and succumb to the evil designs of terrorists. I will not surrender my Spirit, to the evil machinations of cowardly terrorists.

JAI HIND !!

Folks,

About 2 decades back, I had stayed for a few years in Mumbai - as a young bachelor. I and my apartment-mates (we were 4 of us) used to go every weekend to South Mumbai and we used to go to all the areas which were close to the palces which were affected by the blast. We used to take a train and land in VT Station (now known as CST) and then walk to Colaba Causeway and do shopping, eating, watch movies etc.

I feel very sad when I see the same CST, Colaba Causeway filled with dead bodies and pool of blood everywhere. We used to walk near Hotel Taj also many times and admire the beautiful edifice and would even discuss among ourselves "Will we ever become rich enough to afford to stay at this Grand Hotel"? Now it seems such an irony that the inmates of this Hotel met such a gory end.

Coming to Hotel Oberoi, the other affected Hotel - this was also a place close to my heart since it was at the heart of NARIMAN POINT, the biggest Business District of Mumbai. Infact, I had even worked for 4 months at an Organization which was located on AIR INDIA Building - which happens to be just next door to Hotel Oberoi. They were located on either side of the same road. We would watch the rich and famous people entering the posh Hotel and wonder what it takes in life to make it big like them - those were the thoughts of us when we were in our 20's.

I get so angry when I watch the images on TV and the Newspapaers. I generally come Home late so I don't get much chance to read the Newspapers. I sit on weekends and read the Newspapers in detail and doing this for the last 2 days - I am feeling miserable about what has happened. Too shocking.
